Gorilla Glass Replacement

Gorilla Glass Replacement

The new Sapphire glass was introduced by Apple which was rumored to replace it's original glass, The Gorilla Corning glass made by Corning's Everton. The newer models of iPhone, i.e iPhone 5s introduced the Sapphire glass which was used in the home button to make use of the fingerprint sensor.

GT Advance Tech which is the producer of Sapphire Glass received an order of  $578 million dollars from apple to provide them with the glass, but Apple has not yet given any clue about whether they will be replacing the Gorilla Screen with the new scratch resistance Sapphire Glass, which is not very surprising since Apple has a knack for keeping secrets and keeping its users baffled.

Many believe that Apple is going to acquire shares of GTAT ( GT Advance Tech ), i.e, takeover the company, it can very well be that the production of iPhone 5s and 6 may be in full swing because both these phones use Sapphire Glass for the home key as well as the camera lens.

Verdict

If Apple by any chance starts replacing the screens of the new iPhone with the Saphire screens, it will be a foolish mistake indeed because the Saphire Screen will cost a hefty price of $30 as compared to a very low price of $3 for the Gorilla glass. The price is not the only factor, the protection that Sapphire glass provides is also very less than that of Gorilla glass.

This is what Corning's Senior VP Jeffery Evenson has to say about this matter:

" What would people say if someone invented a cover that was about half the weight, used 99 percent less energy to make, provided brighter displays, and cost less than a tenth of sapphire? I think they'd say that sapphire was in real trouble. It so happens that we at Corning already invented that cover -- and it's called Gorilla Glass. "
